Description
- Prioritize the day
- Pull up office schedule
- Ready the rooms for the day
- When necessary, inform provider of special needs (i.e. difficulty hearing, angry, etc.)
- Escort patients to and from exam rooms
- Take vital signs
- Update problem list and medication list
- Flag the room appropriately for the healthcare provider
- Perform in-house testing when ordered
- Schedule follow-up appointment and procedures for patient when office flow allows
- Educate patients regarding their scheduled procedures per provider’s order
- Stand by during history and physical exam and during treatment development if requested
- Retrieve phone calls left in voice message system and address issues as requested by patient.
- Obtain prior authorization for medications as required by insurance plan
- Review patient charts for next day appointments
- Enter information into EMR from Patient Information Form (PIF)
- Maintenance of drug sample cabinet
- Obtain physician signature for drug representative
- Log in drug samples by lot number and expiration date
- Log out drug samples to patients as ordered by the physician
- Dispose of expired drug samples
- End of day duties
- Clean sinks in exam rooms
- All table paper is changed and disposed of
- Monitor the maintenance of pillow cases
- Clean exam tables at end of each day with disinfectant/during day as needed
- Maintain supplies in exam room
- Hemoccult cards and testing solution
- K-Y gel
- Maintain flashlights are working
- Gowns
- Disposable sheets
- Inform ordering department when supplies need ordered
- Other duties as assigned
Job Eligibility Requirements:
- Medical Assistant diploma
- Experience in the medical field
- Knowledge of medications, their uses and interactions
- Organized and detail oriented
- Utilizing computer for resources needed to manage the medical assistant duties
- Good communication skills with the patients, the doctors and co-workers
- Friendly and courteous at all times with both the public and with co-workers
- Able to work under stress and flexible in decision making
- Ability to take direction from supervisor and one’s peers
- A team player
- BCLS certification
- Knowledge in the field of gastroenterology is a plus
- Knowledge of insurance plans (POS, HMO, PPO, etc.) and their requirements
- Familiar with HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality at all times even after employment is terminated
- Self-motivated but able to recognize one’s limitations
