Job Title:  Denailing Specialist

Reports To:  Production Manager /Denail Supervisor

General Summary:

Responsible for removing all foreign material from wood and preparing it for sawing and/or drying processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Metal detect, remove metal, and stick of lumber in a safe and productive manner.

  2. Assist team to keep denailing areas neat, organized, and operating efficiently.

  3. Assist team to maintain tools and equipment in the denailing area in good working order.

  4. Work with other employees as a team in the denailing area to meet company standards and goals.

  5. Properly sort, and stack lumber.

  6. Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of  Olde Wood’s policies and practices.

  2. Knowledge of wood species identifications.

  3. Knowledge of denailing methods.

  4. Skills operating chainsaws, circular saws, metal detectors, forklifts, and other tools and equipment.

  5. Skills in denailing, sorting, and stacking lumber.

  6. Ability to read-write, and make basic mathematical calculations.

  7. Ability to read a tape measure and measure accurately.

  8. Ability to work independently, leading and motivating others to achieve production goals

  9. Ability to recognize when conditions dictate change.

Education and Experience:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.  Production, manufacturing, or wood industry experience may be substituted for education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Must have good vision to inspect the wood and write reports

Must be able to hear well enough to communicate effectively with co-workers and operate metal detectors.

Must be able to work standing or walking for an entire work shift

Must be able to stoop and kneel during an inspection, and be able to mount and dismount forklifts.

Must have good dexterity to handle materials, tools, and personal computers.

Must be able to lift to 80 lbs. And repeatedly lift, move, stack lumber for the entire work shift.  Must be able to push/pull lumber carts as needed.

Working Conditions:

Normal working conditions are inside 50 - 100 degrees, on occasion, may require working outside.
