JOB TITLE: ENGINEER III

SALARY RANGE: $ 47.25 - $52.50 per hour (Depending upon Qualifications & Experience)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Sanitary Engineer and Assistant Sanitary Engineer, the Engineer III provides professional engineering assistance in administrative and engineering activities of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering; and State certification as a registered Professional Engineer; and at least ten (10) years of experience in engineering including experience in public works projects, or equivalent. Possession of a valid State of Ohio driver’s license. Ohio EPA Water and Wastewater Licensure (preferred).

PREFERRED SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: Knowledge of: Supervisory and management principles and techniques; Civil Engineering principles and practices; a wide variety of design and construction standards; methods, codes, ordinances, regulations and standards governing public works projects; and public relations. Skills and Abilities to: Design engineering projects; remain abreast of latest developments within engineering field; analyze engineering plans, proposals, specifications and other documentation to recommend changes, revisions or other modifications; develop and maintain positive team oriented working relationships with supervisors, associates, other professionals and the general public; conduct detailed research; review work prepared by others; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; strong and effective interpersonal skills; and utilize, troubleshoot, and adapt Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) applications along with other word processing and spreadsheet applications to assist in engineering assignments.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises the work of subordinates who are assigned to various engineering projects. Designs various engineering projects. Studies major engineering problems to determine alternative methods for completion of projects, meets with supervisor and associates to discuss engineering problems and available options. Reviews engineering design work. Manages procurement and review of professional engineering services for contract requirements and engineering correctness. Prepares and submits applications for permits applications for various projects, reviews permit applications prepared by others to ensure compliance with codes and regulations, coordinates project bidding process, reviews and resolves construction problems. Determines and applies computer applications for projects with which involved. Serves as liaison between department and consulting engineers and assumes responsibility for controlling various aspects of contract work, represents department at conferences, meetings concerning public works and civil engineering activities. Prepares studies, reports and other documentation as necessary. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Other related duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job functions are mostly performed in an office setting. Visits construction sites to resolve problems and review progress. May require light lifting (i.e. paper for printers) and use of general office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, printers, etc.).
