STARK COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE

The Stark County Coroner’s Office is looking for a highly qualified individual for the full-time position of Medicolegal Death Investigator.  This individual will investigate deaths that occur suddenly, unexpectedly, or by violence, including homicidal, suicidal, or accidental deaths; and deaths relating to disease which might constitute a threat to public health.

  • In order to be considered for this position, the applicant must be a current or recent paramedic, LPN, RN, or higher medical training.  Resumes will be accepted only from individuals meeting this requirement, all others will not be considered.
  • Must be a resident of Stark County
  • Must obtain Registered Diplomat status from the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators within 18 months of employment.
  • Must be able to work in abhorrent and emotionally trying conditions, including close proximity to decomposition, insect and maggot infestation, massive traumatic injuries, abused and neglected infants and children, hoarder type residences, communicable diseases, etc.

Other skills and qualifications

Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; energetic and able to develop productive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and partners.

Knowledge of the principles and methods of field investigation.

Knowledge of the Ohio Revised Code, and the rules, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to medicolegal investigations.

Knowledge of medical terminology, medical findings related to medicolegal investigations, cause and manner of death statements, and development of medical history timelines.

Skill in ascertaining facts by personal contact, observation, and examination of records and other evidence.

Ability to effectively interview individuals involved in medicolegal investigations.

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing to create a concise, accurate and logical depiction of circumstances surrounding a reported death that provides answers to basic investigative questions to serve as the initial foundation for determining jurisdiction and the resulting components of the medicolegal investigation.

Ability to work multiple different assigned shifts to provide coverage to the office 24/7/365, including short or no notice recall, overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Must successfully pass a background investigation.

Must possess the physical ability to assist in the movement of decedents between gurneys, carts, and tables which requires the ability to push, pull and lift (with assistance) human bodies of varying weights and sizes.
